I’ve heard a lot of people saying “it’s all for show” or “no one really says like that in private, he’s just acting tough.” I can tell you, they’re out there. They’re real.

I worked for a lawyer for five years. A racist, bigoted, mysigonist who was constantly praised for his “character,” for being “proud” and “straightforward.” Seeing a presidential candidate use racial slurs, graphic sexual descriptions, and serious threats to express himself is not surprising to me. But it should be. I heard it everyday for half a decade and now I’m hearing it again. I can guarantee you, this is not an act. This is not pandering to the disgruntled masses. This is his honest, genuine “best behavior.”

The problem isn’t that he says or thinks these things. The problem is that he genuinely thinks it’s okay to say and think them. All the arguments in the world will only encourage him. Why is that okay? Why are we accepting it?

These people exist and they are everywhere. The only difference is, they’re not making decisions about my body. And your religious freedom. About his lifestyle. Until now.

They’re out there. And now they’re dangerous.
